Roaming the Midnight Landscape for Moonbeams: Bill Schoenfuss and His Quest for the Wisconsin Moonstone
When one thinks of retirement, a variety of images may spring to mind. The sunlit
shores and sandy beaches of Florida, as an example. However, retirement to Bill Schoenfuss
means an 18-hour work day in which he digs for a gemstone that has been hotly debated and,
at times, overlooked. Schoenfuss owns the shop called Bill’s Moonstone and Crystals which is
located at 202 Grand Ave in Wausau, WI. As of August 2021, he will have run this shop for five
years during his retirement. Although it certainly is not a traditional retirement, as he is
responsible for the steady supply of gems, minerals, and rocks which are on display in his store.
Schoenfuss hires and enlists the help of a group of people, who manage the store and set the
prices of the crystals he finds. But Schoenfuss himself is the one outside at midnight hunting for
the hidden treasures of Wausau.
